Second Period

Second Period

Personal Reflection
In this English course I have learned many formal words that I didn´t know. How to make an essay , a formal letter and many other things, which I think will help in the future. Although there were some things that I dont know if that´s going to be helpful. This was the only class that i learned what to do in team work, and also I know which people I need to choose to be in my team, that experience really helped me because I know what to do and how to be very effective with a team. This is the last time i will have english classes and I think I´m prepared or at least this level will help in the future and that make me feel fine.

Short Story Analysis

A Madison Square Arabian Night

Introduction
A Madison Square Arabian Night” written by O. Henry is a short story of a man named Carson Chalmers that receives a strange letter with a photo of woman, and in attempt to change his routine he decided to invite a homeless man to dine with him. Plumer, the man of the streets, used to be a famous painter of portraits with the ability to show the menessess of the people shown up in his paintings, so that when he told his story in the dinner, Chalmers decided that he wanted to portray the photo of the woman to know the truth of her and then he discover love.

Thesis Statement
The story "A Madison Square Arabian Night” by O. Henry shows that sometimes we can't recognized love even when it is near to us like Chalmers that until the end he recognizes that the woman of the photography is the one. This is reflected in the story through allusion, character, plot and setting.

Allusion

In the "Madison Square Arabian Night", the author refers to "The 1001 Arabian Nights: Feasting the Caliph"
"Good!" barked Plumer; "going to be in courses, is it? All right, my jovial ruler of Bagdad. I'm your Scheherezade all the way to the toothpicks. You're the first Caliph with a genuine Oriental flavor I've struck since frost. What luck! And I was forty-third in line. I finished counting, just as your welcome emissary arrived to bid me to the feast. I had about as much chance of getting a bed to-night as I have of being the next President. How will you have the sad story of my life, Mr. Al Raschid--a chapter with each COURSE or the whole edition with the cigars and coffee?"

Characters
The main characters are Chalmers and Plumer. Chalmers is a solitary rich man that live in an apartment in New York, while Plumer was a famous painter because of his ability to show the menessess of people shown up in his paintings, then he lost his job and became a homeless man.
However, when Chalmers meets Plumer, he started to see things in a different way.

Plot

The plot is logical because the story has a sequence (it is in chronological order). This help the reader to understand better the story because if he/she doesn't understand something they can continue reading and probably know what the author is talking about.

Setting
The location plays an important role to understand the author's intent, because it makes us understand the way the principal characters live and help us to understand better the story.
Conclusion

" A Madison Square Arabian Night" makes a reflection of how many times we are blinded and cannot find what we need. O. Henry shows that people can help you find what you seek. Chalmers was a very rich person but with money not with love, until Plumer help him find the woman for him.

First Period

About Me
My name is Erick Ivan Ortiz Lechuga, i´m 18 years old. I´m doing my major in Animation and Digital Art. I like to play the guitar because since i was 11 years old i enjoyed the sound of the guitar. I like to play with my friends viedogames, because it makes me so happy to be with them. The reason i´m doing that major is because i love videogames. When i was younger i used to play many sports like football, basketball and parkour. But one day I got injured in my knees and since then i can practice sports like before. One of the many things i like todo is to draw, especially about charaters i like from videogames. I hope that in the future i can achieve my personal goals and be happy.

Personal Reflection

I thought i was going to be more prepared for the tests but sometimes i could not take my time to be prepared because other subjects requires more time and effort. now , i think i will sacrifice more of my free time to make the homework and tests a lot better. I think that this class can prepare me for formal presentation in the future and i need to pay more attention because this is probably the last time i will have english classes and i need to be prepared when the time comes.
In this first period i have been practicing more about vocabulary, grammar and punctuation. This was the first time that i have to make essays and outlines in english, so it´s a bit difficult for me but if i practice more i will dominate it.
